Anchor Rode Nylon Stretch Calculator

Estimate nylon (or other) anchor rode elongation under a stretch percent you enter, then see stretched length and an optional effective-scope hint. For rode working length — not snubber OEM sizing and not our dock-line stretch tool.

When to use

Enter nylon rode working length, stretch at load (%), and optional depth+freeboard (same units).

Calculator

ft or m — same units throughout (nylon section in use).
From your rope maker at the load you assume — override presets.
For scope = rode / depth before & after stretch.

How this is calculated

Elongation = rode length × (stretch%/100). Stretched length = length + elongation. Optional scopes: rode÷depth and stretched÷depth. This is rode elasticity under a user %, not snubber length sizing and not dock-line takeoff stretch.

elongation = rode_length × (stretch%/100)
stretched = rode_length + elongation
scope ≈ rode / (depth+freeboard)

Presets are unlabeled as authoritative. Confirm WLL stretch with the rope maker.

Worked example

Example defaults on this page: depth 20, freeboard 4, tidal rise 2, scope 7:1.

vertical = 20 + 4 + 2 = 26. rode = 26 × 7 = 182 (same units you entered).

That is the arithmetic only — holding ground and rode type are not in the multiply.

Limits / assumptions

This anchor rode nylon stretch page models the arithmetic shown in the formula box only.

FAQ

How is this different from dock-line stretch?

Dock-line stretch is for mooring lengths alongside. This page frames nylon rode under anchor load and optional scope change.

Is this snubber sizing?

No. We do not size snubbers to OEM catalogs. Enter stretch % for the rode segment you care about.

Chain + nylon?

Apply this only to the nylon length that can stretch. Chain elongation is negligible here.
